Review – DEWALT DGL573 Lighted Technician’s Tool Bag
If you’re a tech who carries a lot of tools and you don’t currently own a tool bag or tool backpack, you’re probably carrying around a modified luggage bag/pack/carrier with wheels (if you’re smart) or some other non-industry specific bag. If you’re ready to make your life a LOT easier and less confusing, you might want to take a look at some of the new tool bags / organizers / carriers available.
So a tool bag is really a no-brainer, it’s more about choosing which one fits your needs best and we are doing an entire article on comparing the Top 10 Tool Backpacks which can help you decide if you don’t already know which one you want.
We’ve already reviewed the CLC 1539 tool bag and it’s an excellent buy, but before you buy anything, you have to do your due diligence and check out some of the other tool bags and make sure the hard earned money you spend will get you the most bang for the buck.
But for now, let’s concentrate on this DEWALT DGL573 which was designed primarily for Electricians, Communication Techs, though all types of installers, repair technicians and really anyone who needs to transport multiple power hand tools or supplies while having lots of storage pockets would find this pack valuable. Think –multiple hand tools and lots of room and pockets with a shoulder strap to save your back.
This DEWALT DGL573 is designed for:
- Communications Technicians
- Repair Technicians
A plumber friend of mine told me he loves this style pack because he can see anything he drops into it. Many of the backpack style packs are so deep if you drop a screw or small tool down in it, you are going to have to dump it out (not so with the CLC 1134 which zips open all the way to the bottom). However, in general, what he said is true and it’s why he prefers the large mouth style.
This big boy is made by CLC and is a more like a modified CLC 1539. So really what you have to ask yourself is are you in love with the CLC colors and logo?? Because if not, with this bag you get basically the same things as the CLC 1539 but you get an LED Light to boot and save yourself about $8.00 in the process (at least at the going prices at the time of this writing).
This bag also has 41 pockets of multiple sizes (28 inside pockets, 13 outside pockets), but the key feature that sets this pack apart is the LED LIGHT that can be turned towards the tools in the bag or towards your work area. This center storage area is more than enough to hold everything you use regularly (like power hand tools) PLUS a lot of extra room for those other items, i.e., water bottle, or you could even put a small oscilloscope in this bag!
This pack holds A LOT of tools, and you can see in the dark with it! You could easily fit 4 or more power hand tools in here plus some larger, bulky items like 18″ level/ruler, hammer(s). This pack allows you the confidence to know you have everything you need without having to hike back to your work truck. I’ve heard of a smaller construction company owner buying this type of too bag for his employees! Do the math on the time cards…
It also is made of heavy duty materials to it can take a beating and keep on performing, which in this case means, NOT dropping your tools, or the zipper breaking, or straps coming loose…etc.
A picture is worth a thousands words…
Have a look at this bag live… if a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth 10,000 words! Have a look below:
As you can see, this bag is durable (lots of double stitching), has 41 pockets, zippers to keep your tools from falling out, more than enough for all your non power hand tools and gizmos. Plus it has an LED LIGHT and plenty of room for power hand tools!
If you need a job site pack that is rugged, can hold all your commonly used power tools and has storage pockets for smaller hand tools and devices and is priced very well, you might want to pick up this pack. My plumber buddy tried out the Husky brand pack like this one from Home Depot and said,”it fell apart in a few months”.
It’s hard to find anything bad to say about this bag (I mean it’s made by Custom Leather Craft – CLC and they are fantastic). They are just made well and they fulfill a very needed purpose on the job site. The only down side to this bag is like it’s cousin the CLC 1539, it can’t be worn like the backpack style tool bag and that’s only a down side or con if you don’t carry a ton of power tools.
