Review – Custom LeatherCraft 1539 – 50 Pocket Tool Bag
You’ve got more than just one hand tool. You’ve got a cordless drill / screwdriver, and maybe an impact driver, maybe you have circular saw, or sawzall (reciprocating saw). The point being, you have multiple handheld tools and the other normal tool backpacks just aren’t big enough or you don’t want to keep each power hand tool in a specific spot, you just want to toss them in and go.
Well, then this is the type of tool bag for you.
So a tool bag is really a no-brainer, it’s more about choosing which one fits your needs best and we are doing an entire article on comparing the Top 10 Tool Backpacks which can help you decide if you don’t already know which one you want.
But for now, let’s concentrate on this Custom LeatherCraft 1539 which was designed primarily for plumbers, electricians and general carpentry, though all types of installers, repair technicians and really anyone who needs to transport multiple power hand tools while having lots of storage pockets would find this pack valuable. Think –multiple hand tools and lots of room and pockets with a shoulder strap to save your back.
So I spoke with a plumber buddy of mine and he loves this style pack because he can see anything he drops into it. Many of the backpack style packs are so deep if you drop a screw or small tool down in it, you are going to have to dump it out (not so with the CLC 1134 which zips open all the way to the bottom). However, in general, what he said is true and it’s why he prefers the large mouth style.
This CLC 1539 is designed for:
This beast has 50 pockets of multiple sizes, but the key feature that sets this pack apart is the LARGE center storage area & metal frame opening to keep it open. This center storage area is more than enough to hold everything you use regularly PLUS a lot of extra room for those other items, i.e., water bottle, you could even put a small cooler in this bag! If you need less space (less hand tools) fewer pockets, check out the CLC 1134 which has 48 pockets or if you need more pockets (think parts as well as tools) then you might like the CLC 1132 which has 75 pockets.
This pack holds A LOT of tools, you could easily fit 4 or more power hand tools in here plus some larger, bulky items like 18″ level/ruler, hammer(s). This pack keeps you from having to walk back to your truck 100 times in a day (exaggeration I HOPE!). I’ve heard of a smaller construction company owner buying them for his employees! The math works out well when you think about all the walking time.
It also is made of heavy duty materials to it can take a beating and keep on performing, which in this case means, NOT dropping your tools, or the zipper breaking, or straps coming loose…etc.
A picture is worth a thousands words…
Have a look at this bag live… if a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth 10,000 words! Have a look below:
As you can see, this bag (like the rest of the CLC line) is rugged (lots of double stitching and reinforced stress points), has 50 pockets, zippers to keep your tools from falling out, more than enough for all your non power hand tools and gizmos. Plus it has a TON OF ROOM for power hand tools!
If you need a job site pack that is rugged, can hold all your commonly used power tools and has storage pockets for smaller hand tools and devices and is priced very well, you might want to pick up this pack. My plumber buddy tried out the Husky brand pack like this one from Home Depot and said it fell apart in a few months.
It’s hard to find anything bad to say about this bag (really all the CLC stuff). They are just made well and they fulfill a very needed purpose on the job site. The only down side to this bag is it can’t be worn like the backpack style tool bag and that’s only a down side or con if you don’t carry a ton of power tools.
